Amoretti, Carlos
Carlos Alberto Amoretti was born in 1937 in the city of Montevideo (Uruguay).
He lived his childhood in the Palermo neighborhood (Montevideo, Uruguay) surrounded by Rioplatense traditions such as soccer and candombe. From a humble childhood, his talent for drawing began to appear during his school years. At the age of 13 he began his studies of drawing and painting at the National School of Fine Arts, where he was trained by Professor Miguel Angel Pareja.
In 1960 he began his advertising activity, which marked an extensive career as an illustrator, draftsman, sketch artist and art director in some of the country's leading advertising agencies. He illustrated the almanac "Faros de la Costa Uruguaya" with watercolor pen drawings for the company Xerox.
In 1970 he was hired to work at the Frank R. Blunt Agency in California (USA). His practice as an advertising illustrator for several years was what transformed him into a self-taught painter.
His childhood in the Palermo neighborhood, the memories of his youth, his family, his Italian roots and his travels in Europe were some of the themes that inspired Amoretti. The boatman, the telephone with a handle, the manicero, the galley, the washing table, the radio, the spinning top, the charcoal iron, the primus, the streetcar and the antique buses, among others, are recurrent elements in Amoretti's constructivist paintings, which merge with events that have passed through the artist's life.
Since 1985 he has contributed to Aldeas Infantiles, which has since selected one of his works every year to be transformed into a Christmas card. His famous doors opened for many the possibility of looking at a past that, in many neighborhoods, is still present. And his work became so Uruguayan and authentic as a reflection of a society that still lives in the retinas.

"Work, work, work", was the phrase of the master Pablo Picasso that he always had in his sight, next to the lamp that illuminated his work table. Creativity, the constant search for new ways to reflect old traditions was his most outstanding characteristic. The ability to always believe that one could go further, his personal seal.
