Alamón, Gustavo
He was born in Tacuarembó (Uruguay) on January 13, 1935, into a humble family.
In search of an economic outlet, he attended the Liceo Militar, then became a fireman, high school principal and a high school drawing teacher, an activity that was interrupted in 1975, when the military dictatorship removed him from teaching.
He lived for several years from his painting, directed workshops and held important municipal and state positions linked to art and culture.
He received numerous awards, including the Morosoli and the Gardel, and was decorated by the French Ministry of Culture as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France.
He exhibited at the Biennials of Valparaiso (Chile) and Sao Paulo (Brazil), as well as at the Exhibition Hall of the University of Geneva, at the Galerie Nesle in Paris (France), and in countries such as Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Finland, Venezuela and Spain (where he lived for some years).
His works are in private collections in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, England, France, Germany, Holland, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, the United States and Venezuela, and are part of the collections of the Chase Manhattan in New York, the National Library of Spain, the MAN in Santiago de Chile and the MAN in Asunción, Paraguay, of the Four RALLI Museums (Punta del Este, Santiago de Chile, Marbella and Cesárea) and in several Museums in Uruguay (Museo Nacional de Artes Plásticas y Visuales, Museo de Arte Americano de Maldonado, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museos Departamentales de Rivera, Treinta y Tres, Rocha, San José).
Trajectory:
1948- Studies with Anhelo Hernández.
1959- He enters the School of Fine Arts of Montevideo (Uruguay), Edgardo Ribeiro's workshop and later Professor Miguel Angel Pareja's.
1963- He entered the Lyceum of Fray Bentos (Río Negro, Uruguay) as a teacher.
1967- He settled in Tacuarembó (Uruguay) where he continued teaching Drawing classes at the Liceo Departamental and Liceo del Barrio Ferrocarril.
1968- He creates the Plastic Arts workshop "El Sótano" at the Liceo Departamental in Tacuarembó (Uruguay).
1971- He takes charge of the Direction of the Liceo del Barrio Ferrocarril in the same city (Tacuarembó, Uruguay).
1975- He got a scholarship to attend the First Seminar on Engraving at the National Museum of Fine Arts (Montevideo, Uruguay).
1977 a 1987- He is in charge of the Direction of the Plastic Arts Workshop in Salto (Uruguay).
1979- He returns to Montevideo (Uruguay), where he sets up his workshop.
1985 a 1987- He directs the Plastic Arts Workshops in Paysandú, Salto, Fray Bentos and his workshop in Montevideo (Uruguay).
1986 a 1989- He created and directed the Center for Cultural and Artisan Diffusion in Río Negro (Uruguay).
1987- He travels to Federal Germany and Sweden.
1987- He organizes and presides over the 1st National Meeting of Plastic Artists of Uruguay, at the Cultural and Craft Centre of Fray Bentos.
1989 - Participates as invited panelist in 1° Latin American Encounter of Plastic Arts, Porto Alegre (Brazil).
1990- Participates as guest panelist at the 2nd Latin American Meeting of Plastic Arts Porto Alegre (Brazil).
1991 to 1993- Lives in Madrid (Spain), where he installs his workshop.
1995 to 1998- He is appointed Director of Culture of the Department of Río Negro (Uruguay).
1999- He is appointed Director of the Department of Plastic Arts of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Montevideo, Uruguay).
2000 a 2004- He directs the National Workshop for the Training of Plastic Arts Teachers at the Ministry of Education and Culture (Montevideo, Uruguay).
2000- He is a member of the Interior Biennial Jury, San José Museum (Uruguay).
2000- She is a member of the jury at the Silversmith's Salon of Cambio Wales (Uruguay).
2002- She was a member of the Jury of the Paul Cezanne Award 2002, organized by the French Embassy (Montevideo, Uruguay).
2002 - Member of the jury at the 50th National Exhibition of Visual Arts, National Museum of Plastic Arts (Montevideo, Uruguay).
2003 - Director of "Puerta de San Juan" Art Gallery (Montevideo, Uruguay).
