Dura, Alberto
Painter born in Montevideo (Uruguay) on 14th August of 1888. Maked his fist drawing studies at the Fine Arts Circle with the masters: Carlos María Herrera and Vicente Puig, and autodidact at painting.
Builded his house in Aires Puros neighborhood, at the hillside when nowadays establish "La Criolla" Society and at the foot of Montevideo Chiquito stream near the confluence with the picturesque Miguelete stream. From this height nowadays can see the rest of lush forest of farms, real parks of environment. From his viewpoint painted several views of the landscape. This attitude categorize a certain aesthetics conception, who point out the importance for a lot of artists, the search of a thematic who encouragement for an artistic creation. Was the same stance of different historical moments by other artists, for example the Barbizon School artists like Corot, the impressionists, Van Gogh, etc.; who have recourse to visible elements who moved to paint.

1930- Honour Diploma and Silver Medal, at Latin American Exhibition of Sevilla (Spain).
1937- 1st. Prize, GOLD MEDAL, at 1st. National Painting Contest for his oil "Lo que se va: Avenida Agraciada".
1938- 2nd. Prize, Silver Medal at 2nd. National Painting Contest for his oil "Salto de Aguas Frías).
1939- 1st. Prize, GOLD MEDAL, at 3rd. National Painting Contest for his oil "Poesía" (Bellezas del Miguelete).
1939- Alejandro Gallinal Prize, at 3rd. Municipal Painting Contest for his oil "Reflejos del Río Negro" (Mercedes).
1940- 1st. Prize, GOLD MEDAL, at 4th. National Painting Contest for his oil "Aquí soñó Blanes" Arequita, Minas.
1946- Acquisition Prize, at 7th. Municipal Painting Contest for his oil "Mediodía".
1948- Montevideo Municipal Council Special Prize, Bronze Medal for his oil "Luz en las serranías" at 12th. Municipal Painting and Sculpture Contest.
1949- The Best Portrait Prize, GOLD MEDAL, for his oil "Self-portrait" at 13th. Municipal Painting and Sculpture Contest.
1956- Acquisition Prize, at 8th. Municipal Painting Contest for his oil "Avenida Agraciada".
Died in Montevideo in 1971.
Was an art critical of "El Ideal" Newspaper and colaborated with other art press companies of Montevideo (Uruguay).
His works are at National and Municipal Fine Arts Museums (Uruguay), Eusebio Ximénez Museum of Mercedes (Uruguay) and in private collections of: Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, USA, Spain, France and Belgium.
