Berta, Alfredo Eugenio
Painter and drawer born in Montevideo (Uruguay) on 15th November of 1895.
Autodidact, his vocation wake up since little child, practice imaginative drawing and making copies. Take one's first steps in caricature in 1927 making several individual exhibitions in Montevideo (Uruguay) and in Buenos Aires (Argentina). He was drawer of "Imparcial" Newspaper since 1924.
Awarded a Scholarship by Directive of Banco de la República, were he worked and traveled to Europe, there visited museums, galleries, art centers (1931). In Paris (France) visited Clement Serveau, famous French painter, who designed Uruguayan bills of the Republic Centenary of 1830, sketch painting teacher of Fine Arts Academy. Berta received his piece of advice and technical instructions. Inspired by thematic of the International Colonial Exhibition of Paris (France), inaugurated few days before his arrival, Vincennes Forest, Sena's river, Montmartre and Montparnasse around, made a beautiful serie of paintings and made an individual exhibition at the Honour Hall of Uruguayan Embassy in Paris (France).
Died in Montevideo (Uruguay) in 1974.

1931- Individual exhibition at Sala de Honor of the Uruguayan Embassy (Paris, France).
1942- Individual exhibition at Fine Arts Stimulate Association (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
Since 1943 to 1974, took part only in Montevideo (Uruguay) more than 40 exhibitions of his works in different techniques like: oils, watercolors, inks, charcoals and pastels.
Principal prizes:
1929- 1st.Prize, GOLD MEDAL, at IV Salón Anual de Artistas Libres del Ateneo, for three styliced caricatures: "Dr. Alejandro Gallinal"; "Dr. Santín Carlos Rossi" and del orfebre "Santiago Cozzolino" (Uruguay).
Take part in several National, District and Municipal Contests, where obtained numerous recognitions and mentions.
He's represent at OEA with "A orillas del Solís Chico" watercolor (Uruguay); at National Fine Arts Museum of Montevideo (Uruguay) with his oils "Puesta de sol", "Mediodía en un barrio del sur", "Del Coloniaje" and "Mediodía".
His works are in numerous official and private institutions and in private collections of Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain, France, Canada, Holland, England and Germany.
