Andrada, Elsa
Painter born in Montevideo (Uruguay) on 14th March of 1920.
Take his first studies with Renée Geille Castro de Sayagués Lasso in 1943 and later with the master Joaquín Torres García since 1944 to 1948.
It's at the Torres García School meet his future husband, the recognized artist Augusto Torres.
Realized study travels to Europe in 1950, from 1954 to 1956 and in 1968; visit several countries. And some travels to USA from 1960 to 1962 and in 1970. Teach drawing and painting at public schools.
Principal exhibitions:
1954- Exhibition at Galería Moretti (Montevideo, Uruguay).
1955- Represented at Salón de los Independientes at Modern Art Museum (Paris, France).
1957- "La Jóven Pintura Uruguaya" exhibition (Amsterdam, Holland).
Take part at all exhibitions of the Torres García School in Buenos Aires, La Plata (Argentina), Santiago de Chile (Chile) and New York (USA).
Principal prizes:
1946- Acquisition prize for his oil "Retrato" at VII Salón de Pintura Municipal (Uruguay).
1958- Acquisition prize for his oil "Calle de París" at X Salón de Pintura Municipal (Uruguay).
Her works are at National Fine Arts Museum (Uruguay), Municipal Fine Arts Museum (Uruguay), Hospital Saint Bois - Torre de Antel (Uruguay) and in private collections of Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, USA, Spain, France, Italy, Holland, Germany, Israel and South Africa.
