Lorente Mourelle, Rafael
Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1940. He graduated as an architect from the Universidad de la República in 1968. At the Taller Torres García he studied with Masters José Gurvich and Guillermo Fernández. He has exhibited regularly since 1967. In the First Biennial of Plastic Expression in 1983 he obtained the Gold and Silver Asterisk Award. In 1986 at the Bienarte 1, held at the Cultural Alliance Uruguay-United States, he won first prize. In 1998 in the National Sculpture Contest allusive to Justice, he won the first prize, the following year his work was placed in the Passage of Human Rights in Plaza Cagancha. In 2001 he was awarded the Silver Morosoli Prize in Sculpture and in 2003 the Silver Morosoli in Architecture. Between 1965 and 2010 he won numerous first prizes in national architecture competitions. In 1996 he organized the event Montevideo y la Plástica, at the Montevideo City Hall. In 1999 he organized the retrospective exhibition Julio Alpuy. In 2005 he co-authored the books of architects Rafael Lorente Escudero and Ernesto Leborgne. Between 2008 and 2010 he collaborated with the magazine LARS Cultura y Ciudad - Valencia. Since 2011 he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the José Gurvich Foundation.
